With more than 1000 sworn and civilian members, the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) requires a permanent full-time Learning and Development Coordinator. The WRPS delivers exceptional police services to more than 575,000 residents. As the Learning and Development Coordinator…
You Will:
- Liaise with subject-matter experts to identify any required updates to course or curriculum content and/or gather materials for course development;
- In collaboration with the Learning and Development Specialist, design and develop e-learning programs and courses that meet legislative and industry standards;
- Edit and manage current digital assets (e.g., photos, videos, audio, illustrations) to be used in the development of the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) learning and training courses;
- Design and develop new multimedia content for the WRPS e-learning and training courses; internally produce video and audio recordings or acquire content through external avenues;
- Create new vector based graphics, or sources and downloads the illustrations from a graphics website; edits the acquired graphics to follow suit to the training module being developed;
- Creates, implements, and configures e-learning modules to ensure optimal end-user functionality and compliance with the current WRPS Learning Management System;
- Delivers training programs to members, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats;
- Develops and administers course exercises and skills evaluations (e.g., quizzes) to foster a clear understanding and support the retention of information; provides feedback to participants in a constructive and positive manner; and
- Develops training evaluation methods to assess the effectiveness of training programs.
You Have:
- Comprehensive knowledge of visual design theory, normally acquired through the successful completion of a two (2) year college diploma in Graphic Design or fine arts and/or a related discipline;
- Minimum two (2) years’ of demonstrated experience with designing, developing, implementing, and testing successful and effective e-learning programs is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
- Relevant customer service experience is required to interact with internal members of all ranks, as well as members and external agencies;
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office programs, Adobe software applications, and multimedia software to design online courses is required;
- Previous relevant, demonstrated experience in the development, facilitation, execution, and evaluation of adult education training and development programs is preferred;
- Experience with professional audio recording hardware, professional photography and video hardware is preferred;
- Previous experience utilizing a Learning Management System is considered an asset;
- Demonstrated understanding of sourcing, editing, and creating vector based graphics;
- Artistic ability to complete drawings and illustrations;
- Analytical skills to evaluate training programs and time management skills to prioritize multiple initiatives and maintain timelines in a fast-paced environment; and

- A strong self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision;
- Able to provide guidance and recommendations to others in a positive and constructive manner;
- An excellent public speaker, with the ability to effectively deliver and facilitate training programs;
- Able to reference, interpret, and apply relevant and applicable legislation/regulations, including, the Police Services Act, Adequacy Standards, relevant Employment Legislation, AODA, OHSA, Ministry Accredited Training Standards, and other Industry-Specific Standards; and
- Able to meet the testing and police security requirements for the position.
